Fourth is all that was possible at Monza in 2 Litre Cup – 22nd September 2019

Olly Bryant and Andrew Smith have become used to dominating the 2.0 Litre Cup championship. Overall champions in 2018, the pair have won every race they’d finished since the series began. Monza 2019 was to change all of that. A change in exhaust regulations meant the Historika owned & run Porsche 901 had a serious straight line performance deficit at Monza. The nature of the circuit meant the weekend would be a challenge. Some 3.5 seconds off the pace in free practice, Bryant pulled out a master lap in qualifying to line up P2, and hopes were perhaps falsely restored prior to the race. Once the race began, it was clear this lack of straight line pace was hampering the lap times and Smith dropped behind championship rival Mark Sumpter and into the clutches of other runners. Bryant resumed and ran P3 until the penultimate lap where he was passed on the straight resulting in a P4 finish. The Historika team are working hard on a solution prior to the final round at Paul Ricard. (photo credit 2.0L Cup)
