Spa 6 Hours - 27-28th September 2024

Tuesday 1st October 2024

Olly partnered up with great friends Joe Twyman and Phil Keen for this year’s Spa 6 Hours race, sharing the 2021 winning machine, GT40P 2263.

A revised format saw qualifying split into two x 45-minute sessions. One was Thursday evening, and one was Friday evening. Typical Spa weather saw both of these nighttime sessions held in heavy rain. Best laps from the first session saw the car line up an impressive P4 overall in the 84-car field, which included no less than 22 GT40s.

Olly started and opted to fuel save, including taking an out-of-sequence stop at 50 minutes to fuel the car. Joe Twyman took over an hour later and also successfully fuelled the car under safety car conditions. Phil Keen was inserted in the car with just under the mandatory maximum 150 minutes remaining. The plan was to fuel save at a sensible pace and enjoy a clean run to the end, with the idea of climbing up the order as others stopped for fuel later on. Unfortunately, an issue with the rear disc caused braking to only work on the front axle. The result was a serious pace deficit to the leaders, with the car only managing to lap 8-10 seconds off the pace. Despite this, we ran as high as P4 before eventually ending up 6th overall.

With a great strategy and strong driver line up, it was disappointing not to be able to challenge for the podium. But the team has worked out what the issue was and engineered a solution so it will not happen again.

Now, onto Estoril for the final round of the 2-litre cup with Kyle Tilly and Era Motorsport!
