QUALIFYING

Team Aero Struggled to fined a balance on the new Avon Tyres at the first meeting of the year. The compound was too hard for the car and this caused an oversteer problem which greatly affected the potential of the car. Avon have accepted the problem and are making a soft compound rear tyre for the team to test prior to the second meeting in May at Donington.

Despite the problem, Oliver qualified the Morgan in P5 on the grid for race one with a 1m47.3s lap. Keith qualified 9th for race two with a 1m48.6s lap.

RACE 1

Oliver made a storming start and brought the Aero 8 up from 5th to 2nd place with some well-timed overtaking manoeuvres. At 35 mins, Oliver came in and handed over to Keith Ahlers. The car was not handling at all well on the grip less rear tyres and keith struggled and dropped back to 6th for the finish. Oliver and Keith both banked 3 vital points for the championship.

RACE 2

Keith started race two and had a difficult session battling in the pack for position, he handed over to Oliver just after half distance in P11. Oliver rejoined and set about the task of regaining lost ground on the cars ahead. Oliver caught and past the Team Chad Porsche 996 before reeling in three Ferrari 360’s and passing them one after another in a series of aggressive overtaking moves which saw the car finish in fifth position. This was a great result considering the tyre problem and both drivers banked 4 points.

The next meeting is at Donington Park on the 20/21st of May.
