Disaster Strikes!

Team Aero tried a new construction of tyre that gave the car great handling in practice. Both Oliver and Keith were lapping quickly and confident for a good weekend.

During practice, Oliver noticed that the differential was getting hot. The Team drained the diff of its oil and found the remains of a bolt that had sheared within the diff. This was one of 8 bolts and with qualifying approaching, and insufficient time to change the diff, the team made the decision to run in qualifying. Unfortunately the diff let go completely causing Oliver and Keith to miss race 1.

The differential was rebuilt completely over night to the credit of the mechanics. However after a promising morning practice session when Keith recorded his fastest lap of the weekend, the clutch failed as Keith pulled away for the formation lap. Oliver had to watch his 2006 championship hopes disappear. He entered the round with a strong, joint 3rd position in the championship. With 2 races missed due to mechanical failures, Oliver can only hope for a strong finish at the final 2 hour race at Silverstone on the 24th of September.

Both drivers deserved better luck at Brands as the car was on the pace from the word go, they were almost certainly robbed of a brace of podium finishes!
