Refuelling penalty prevents podium challenge for Olly Bryant and Richard Hywell-Evans- Snetterton 16th July 2022

Saturday 16th July 2022

On the back of their podium success at Silverstone earlier in the year. Olly once again partnered Richard Hywell-Evans in his potent black AC Cobra for the 3 hour Pall Mall Cup race , this time on the Snetterton 200 circuit in Norfolk.

Despite bedding tyres and brakes, Olly recorded a time good enough for third on the grid in qualifying.

Olly took the start and worked his way to the front. building a 30 second lead by the end of his opening stint over the similar car of Richard Cook and Harvey Stanley. Richard Hywell Evans resumed in the lead after the team serviced the car, adding 40 litres of fuel and cleaning the windscreen. After a strong 45 minute stint, Richard pitted to hand the car back over to Olly. Another 40 litres was added and a slow stop due to a missing wheel clip resulted in Olly resuming P2, 19 seconds behind the now charging Harvey Stanley. Olly chipped away at this lead, and with 38 minutes of the race remaining, the gap was down to 9 seconds. The race was set for a grandstand finish, when unfortunately the car was called in to serve a 3 minute stop go penalty for a minor refuelling infringement. This was disaster for the team who’d worked so hard to keep the car in contention over the 3 hour race duration. Olly subsequently retired the car at the team’s request and this bitter end to the race was unfitting given the minor misdemeanour. Congratulations to Richard Cook and Harvey who drove incredibly well all race.
