Promising run for Oliver on Ascari Debut

Sunday 12th August 2007

Oliver Bryant’s first race with the Damax team in their Ascari KZ1R took place on the Silverstone International circuit on the 12th of August. The British GT championship race was to be contested over 2 hours and Oliver was partnered by Phil Keen. The car lacked pace in qualifying but had promising form on old rubber which was encouraging ahead of the long race.

Oliver took the start from 9th on the grid and maintained ground until settling into a rhythm an advancing up the order. Oliver passed the Aston Martin of Paul Drayson and Ferrari 430 of Hector Lester and battled with the other Ferrari of Phil Burton until pitting just before the hour.

The team made the decision to stay on the same tyres as they were holding up well. This saved time in the pits and the car emerged in 2nd place catching the leading Lamborghini.

Unfortunately this encouraging run was short lived as the tyres faded and Phil was unable to keep up the pace. In the final 45 mins the car dropped to the 7th as grip faded dramatically affecting the cars lap times. This was disappointing for the team, Oliver and Phil.

The shorter 1-hour races at Thruxton should hopefully suit the car better.
