Olly storms to podium finish at Walter Hays Trophy

Thursday 7th November 2024

Olly was entered into the HSCC Allcomers race at the 2024 Walter Hayes Trophy event in the GT40 to try some brake alterations following the issues suffered in the Spa 6 hours. The Walter Hayes Trophy event is always the season ending event at Silverstone and predominantly features Formula Ford races in a series of heats , culminating in a grand finale. The HSCC who run the event , host an Allcomers race which allows competitors to enter the 25 minute race on Silverstone National circuit layout.

In a very eclectic and mixed grid, door issues in qualifying meant Olly was only able to record 1 timed lap which lined him up 18th on the 33 car grid. Up 10th by the end of the first lap , with the revised brake setup working well. Olly made good progress battling against more modern machinery on grippier tyres. By the time the red flag was shown after 18 minutes Olly had made it up to 3rd overall on the road. He finished 3 places in front of father Grahame who gave the family Morgan +8 its first and only outing of the year.
