Olly Bryant coaches William Plant to P2 in GT CUP Championship

Tuesday 6th January 2015
In addition to a busy season in the Blancpain Endurance Series driving for the Ecurie Ecosse team, Olly coached and drove alongside William Plant in his first season in GT cars.

Driving a 2012 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car run by In2 Racing, the pair mounted a strong title assault in the GTB class. Finishing just 4 points shy of the title at the end of the season. The season started off well with a pair of wins at Donington Park. Further wins followed at Silverstone International, Silverstone GP, Donington Park GP and Oulton Park, in addition to a string of pole positions and fastest laps. Contact with a championship rival dropped the Porsche to the tail of the field in race 1 at Silverstone International and this result cost those vital points at the end of the year.

GT Cup is a series designed for amateur GT drivers and a good starting point in GT racing. As the designated Pro, Olly was not allowed to qualify the car, and could only share the car in the two-driver races. The season focus was on the development of Will’s driving, and Olly used his experience acquired in 10 years of GT racing to develop Will’s driving over the course of the season. An extensive programme was developed and through the use of data, video, simulators, and circuit walks, his pace improved massively over the season.

Olly Bryant: “It was a pleasure working with Will in GT Cup this year. It was very rewarding to see his driving improve and I’d like to thank In2 Racing for doing a top job with the car. My thanks must also go to Nicky Grist and P1 Racewear for their support.”

William Plant: “It was a fantastic season in my first year of GT racing in the GT Cup Championship. Great thanks must go to all at In2 Racing for their efforts throughout the season and to Olly for all his help getting me up to speed in the Porsche which enabled us to produce great results. To cap the year off with consecutive wins was a huge delight, and I look forward to progressing with my GT racing.”
