Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone

Friday 1st October 2010

Qualifying

Olly drove the Marcos for the 3rd time in the Britcar 24 hour race and was joined by father Grahame and GT4 Aston Martin race winner Will Goff. As the cars joined the circuit for the day-time qualifying session, the circuit was wet, Olly posted the fastest time for the car of 2m14.764 which put the car 6th on the grid in the 60-car field, and 2nd in class. Night qualifying was used to set up the lights and familiarise the drivers with the track at night. The track was still wet and Olly posted the 11th quickest time in this session.

Race

Olly took the start and proceeded cautiously as the car was full of fuel and had run very little in the dry as the weekend had been wet up to that point. As the stint went on, Olly moved towards the front and on lap 51, the Marcos was in 3rd position overall. Unfortunately, just after pitting to take on fuel, Olly noticed a vibration and pitted the car for repairs. These repairs were lengthy and dropped the car to the rear of the field. Will Goff then completed an excellent stint in the rain and fog before Olly took over again in the early morning. Grahame then ran for 3 hours in the mid morning before Will got back in. Unfortunately in a particularly heavy downpour, the track flooded and Will aquaplaned on water going through Chapel turn made contact with the barrier. The car was repaired and sent back out but the damage caused to the diff meant the car had to be pitted soon after. After some more work the car was able to resume the race to take the chequered flag, albeit some way back, the car had made it to the finish, 3rd in class and 44th overall!
