Oliver Bryant switches from Tech 9 Motorsport to Damax

British GT Championship contender Oliver Bryant has switched from Tech 9 Motorsport to Damax and will drive the team’s Ascari KZ1R with fellow BRDC Rising Star Phil Keen.

Bryant started the season sharing a Porsche 997 with Matt Harris, but the German machine has generally lacked pace against the Aston Martin, Ferrari and Dodge opposition. Apart from a rain-affected victory at Oulton Park the pair has failed to finish on the podium and Bryant lies 20 points behind championship leaders Alex Mortimer and Bradley Ellis.

Tech 9 boss Phil Hindley admitted that the Porsche has not been as fast as anticipated. We have all been frustrated by the lack of pace shown by the Porsche 997 in the GT3 class. It was the benchmark model for 2006, but the other marques have developed and the pace has dramatically increased since last season, he said.

After testing the Ascari for the first time at Silverstone last week, Bryant is confident that the car should be competitive. It’s good on the brakes and it absorbs the bumps better than the Porsche, he said. It’s a well-balanced car and we should be right up there.

Damax has had a difficult season to date, but team boss Robin Ward believes Bryant and Keen, who was a frontrunner in the series last year in an Eclipse Motorsport Mosler, will be quick. We think this driver pairing in an Ascari will be competitive and help Oliver in his championship battle, he said.
