Another Successful Spa for Olly Bryant!

BRDC “Rising Star” Olly Bryant returned from the annual Spa 6 Hour meeting with another Victory in the 2 hour GT race, sharing with his father Grahame in the famous AC Cobra, GPG 4C. The pair grabbed the win for the fifth year in a row, and they celebrated the win after a great weekend of racing for Olly and the car. Olly engaged in a battle with the similar cobra of Steve Hitchins for most of the race until Olly forced Steve into an error with 20 minutes to go, Steve spun the car at La Source allowing Olly to get through and pull away to take the win.

Brands Hatch started off well for Oliver who recorded the second fastest time in practice on Saturday morning with a 1m30.585s lap. Steve Clarke then qualified the car for Saturday’s race in P6 with his fastest lap of the weekend, a 1m31.542s. Oliver then engaged in an excellent fight for pole position with Allen Simonsen in the Ferrari F430. Oliver initially got pole, then Allen took it back on the following lap. Oliver then claimed pole with the first sub 1.30 lap time by a GT3 car on Avons around the Brands GP circuit with a 1m29.939. However this was then beaten by 22 thousandths of a second and Simonsen took pole with a 1m29.917s lap. Rounds 9 &10 Thruxton 28/29th June 2008

The dry weather at Thruxton was a great start to the weekend after the rain of recent meetings. Oliver was driving the number 1 car this weekend alongside Steve Clarke. Saturday’s practice session was used to run in a new engine on the car and although short-shifting at not using 100% throttle, Oliver posted the 11th quickest time of the session on very old tyres with a 1m.18.075s lap. Steve qualified for race one with a time of 1m.17.312s which lined the car up 3rd on the grid. Oliver qualified in the more competitive session for race two and posted a time of 1m16.933 which put the car 10th for Sunday’s race.

Rounds 7 & 8 Snetterton 7/8th June 2008

After the torrential rain of Rockingham, Oliver was looking for some sunshine in Norfolk, unfortunately that did not arrive until the Sunday, resulting in very wet testing, practice, qualifying and race 1. The car worked well in the wet conditions and Oliver went out to bed some brakes in on Saturday morning and the car was 8th quickest.

Rounds 5 & 6 Rockingham 24/25th May 2008

Rockingham was a circuit that suited the Viper and Oliver posted the 7th quickest time in wet free practice, and fastest Viper. Nick qualified the car in 4th position for Sunday’s race but Oliver had a disappointing qualifying session for Monday’s race, ending up 15th. Oliver was forced to pit with a steamed up windscreen at the beginning of the session and he missed out on the fastest running, as the rain continued to pour the circuit became more a more flooded. Had Oliver found an extra second, he would have started 7th!

Rounds 1&2 Oulton Park 22/24 March 2008

The first race in a new car, with a new team and a new teammate, on a circuit that did not suit the Viper, was to be a challenge and a matter of damage limitation. Delays waiting for the arrival of a new sequential gearbox meant limited running prior to qualifying; Oliver’s teammate Nick Foster lined the car up in 11th place for Saturday’s race and Oliver placed the car 14th for Monday’s race with the highest placed viper in 10th place. Every lap in the car, Oliver got quicker as be adjusted to the new car, on the fast and narrow circuit where he took victory at the wheel of a Porsche 997 in the opening round of the championship in 2007.
